2008 Special Contests & Events

 

Opening Ceremony & the Benton County Foundation Tractor Parade & Pull

Wednesday, July 30- 5:00 pm

Celebrate the beginning of the Fair & Rodeo with a fun tractor parade followed by an official Ribbon Cutting with the Fair Board, flag raising, and National Anthem.

Talent Show

  • Winner is able to compete at the Oregon State Fair as Benton County's representative. 
  • Judging Criteria.
  • All types of acts are welcome: dancing, singing, acting, comedy, juggling, magic, etc.
  • All participants must be residents of Benton County
  • Applications accepted until 5:00 p.m. July 29.  Click here for application.  
  • Three age divisions
    • Children (1-9)
    • Youth (10-17)
    • Adults (18 and over)
  • Contest Times: Wednesday, July 30
    • Children - Noon
    • Youth - 2:00 PM
    • Adults - 4:00 PM

Karaoke Contest - Sponsored by BAM Sound Services & Woodstock's Pizza

CASH PRIZES: $400 for Adults (18 & over) & $200 for Youth (17 & under)

  • Ten people will perform each of the below nights for each age division. 
  • The top contestants from each age divison, each night will move on to the semi-final round. 
  • The top 6 from each age divison in the semi-finals will move into the Final round.
  • Contestants can participate in any of the following preliminary contests (no registration or sign-up is required).
    • Preliminaries:
    • Wednesday's, July 11th, 18th, & 25th at Woodstock's Pizza (Open Mic 7-8pm & Karaoke Contest 8-10pm)
    • Wednesday & Thursday, August 1st & 2nd at the Benton Co. Fair & Rodeo (Plaza Stage, Karaoke Contest 9:00-10:30pm & Open Mic 10:30-close)
    • Semi-Finals: Friday, August 3rd at the Benton Co. Fair & Rodeo (Plaza Stage, Karaoke Contest 9:00-10:30pm & Open Mic 10:30-close)
    • Finals: Saturday, August 4th at the Benton Co. Fair & Rodeo (Plaza Stage, Karaoke Contest 9:00-10:30pm & Open Mic 10:30-close)

Pie Eating Contest

Thursday, July 31- 1:00 pm - Floral Courtyard

Two age categories - Adult (16 & over) & Youth (15 & under).

 

Fair Foundation BBQ

Annual fundrasier for the Benton County Fair Foundation.  Tickets can be purchased through the Fair Office.

Willamette Valley Fiddle Contest

Saturday, August 2 - Noon -6:00 pm - Center Stage

Come to Center and witness some of the greatest fiddle musicians in the mid-Willamette Valley, or join the contest to compete for prizes totaling almost $2,000! Play a hoedown, waltz, and a tune of your choice in under 4 minutes. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., with the preliminary contest 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. and finals starting at 3:30 p.m.

Baby Celebration

Sunday, August 3- 1:00 PM - Floral Courtyard

Join us for the 8th annual Benton County Fair & Rodeo Baby Celebration! It will feature friendly competition in three age groups from 6 weeks to 24 months old. The age groups will be judged separately and the winners in each category from Biggest Dimples to Best Decorated Diaper will receive prizes. The 2nd Annual Oregon Fryer Commission's Big Cluck Grill-off

Sunday, August 3 - all day - South Lawn

Amateur Backyard Grill Masters please apply!  The winner of the Benton County Grill-Off will compete with other statewide county winners at the Grand Championship “Big Cluck Grill-Off” Competition during the Oregon State Fair, on Saturday August 23.  Top 3 placing teams win great prizes including a TREAGER GRILL!

Hermiston Watermelon Seed Spitting Contest

Sunday, August 3 - 3:00 p.m.

Spit your way to fame by entering this annual contest. Each contestant will select 3 competition-spitting seeds for entry. The longest distance of any one seed will be judged as the final score. Contestants are divided into 4 age categories with prizes in each: Men’s, Women’s, Youth (8-15) & Children (7 & under).
